I appreciate your candour. My writing often hinges on sharp, candid observations of the world around me, and I certainly hold the belief that such observations, however stark, are a valid part of descriptive storytelling. I do agree, however, that the comment in question jarred the narrative flow for some readers and detracted from the core purpose of the piece — which is to share an engaging travel story. I have edited the text to smooth that transition. Thank you for the structural feedback, it is genuinely valued.

I was interested as considering a visit. I was enjoying your story until the off-putting comment about the women. True? Maybe in your eyes. Necessary? Not at all. Kind? Not in the least and incredibly sexist. This does not belong in such a review.

Well, as always we were travelling light (7kg each) with no suitcases. If we were weighed down with heavier luggage, we'd have taken the fixed fare taxi to get directly to our hotel without faffing around with the metro - and then having to walk to the hotel. And yes, the €33 (no longer €30) fixed fare for a Madrid airport taxi is applicable at any time, including at night. As soon as you tell the taxi driver you are going to an address within the fixed fare zone, they are obliged to use the €33 rate.

We're truly sorry to hear about your experience, Carlos. The only things we can do is to continue to expose online their malpractices, encourage people to stop using iVisa, and spread the word as widely as possible.

Nice write-up, clear and useful tips. Quick question: did you find the metro transfers with luggage genuinely manageable during peak times, or would you recommend taking the fixed-price taxi to avoid stress? Also, curious if the €30 taxi fare applies at night as well. Thanks!

This company is taking advantage of people. I can't get over the way I feel about them.
I did not know about the ETA requirement until 24 hours prior my flight, one thing took me to another and I ended up paying $162.90 CAD also thanks to Google.

The UK Government should also do something about this and not allow these outrageous rates.

My other Canadian friends who also did not know about the ETA until I texted them while they were flying were able to process the permit and gotten approved within minutes for only $22USD.

iVisa did not take accountability for their dishonest practices and I was denied a refund or partial refund when I called them out for taking advantage of people.

I love all this great information. I moved to David about six months ago and have not explored. This gives me excitement about David and what’s here. Although access to Boquete is nice, I want to see what David has to offer!

It sounds like you truly found your stride on Bastimentos... and Polo Beach, with its supporting cast of sloths and toucans? Why, you're practically describing a nature documentary, not the slightly perilous, rubbish-strewn landscape we experienced!

Perhaps Bastimentos does hold a certain quiet allure for those seeking a different kind of adventure. Good on you for finding the upside to what can be a rather challenging destination.

What other snorkelling spots have you got your eye on for your return trip?

I stayed on Bastimentos Island for 5 nights at Bastimentos Hill Hostel as a solo male 25yo. This was after i stayed at Spanish by The Sea on Colon Island.

I enjoyed the island the fact there was less bars and nightlife since i needed a break from Colon (and previously Utila Island). I had walked to Polo Beach from the hostel in Old Bank. There was really nice easy snorkeling there. Saw lots of wild jungle life like sloths and tucans.

Personally I think i will be going back since there are other snorkeling sites i have heard of
