Surviving Spain ☀️🗺️ Two Weeks, Too Many Destinations?
Somehow, we thought it was a brilliant idea. A fourteen-day trip spanning multiple islands and mainland cities, a whirlwind of ferries, flights, and an inevitable amount of frantic map-reading. It was an itinerary that, on paper, looked less like a holiday and more like a logistical puzzle.
So, with a deep breath and a quiet acknowledgment of our over-ambition, we plunged into the Spanish heartland and island life. We were not merely travelling; we were embarking on a two-week masterclass in the art of multi-destination sprinting.
The question was, could we survive it with our sanity (and luggage) intact?
Canary Islands Via Spain ✈️ Itinerary & Budget
Buckle up for a thrill as you discover the Canary Islands via Spain!
Nothing says adventure like multiple layovers, awkward airport naps, and the joy of deciphering foreign transit systems. As you finally land, you’ll be greeted by the casual beauty of volcanic landscapes and beaches that are (just) beachy enough to remind you what sand feels like.
So, pack your patience and that universal travel adapter because the Canary Islands are calling—loudly. 🌋🛫
Girona 🍲 Our Unexpected First Act
Who knew a little city in Catalonia could pack such a punch? We arrived with no real expectations, and it promptly stole a piece of our hearts.
Whether you’re indulging in a gourmet meal or enjoying a leisurely stroll along the Onyar River, Girona is sure to captivate your senses and leave you with lasting memories.
Girona 🌺 What to See & Do in Springtime

Girona offers a tapestry of experiences, from exploring its medieval Old Town, lined with cobblestone streets and colorful facades, to wandering along the tranquil banks of the Onyar River.

Girona transfers from airport 🚌 and onward to Barcelona
Located within sight of the Pyrenees in the northeast of Catalonia, Girona is a great place from which to start a journey to some really exotic locations.
This is due to Girona’s proximity to Barcelona – a main Spanish hub from where many flights depart in the direction of South America, Latin America and beyond. Luckily, Girona transfers from airport and onward to Barcelona are straightforward enough if you do some planning in advance.
Golf del Sur 🏌🏻⛳ Tenerife South
After our brief mainland tour, we jetted off to the islands.
If your idea of a perfect getaway involves battling relentless coastal breezes while chasing a tiny white ball across a sun-scorched landscape, then Golf del Sur in Tenerife South is exactly what you need. This golf resort doesn’t just offer fairways—it delivers a masterclass in patience as you navigate rugged terrain and strategically placed obstacles that seem to mock your every swing.
But hey, at least the views are decent, and if your game doesn’t impress, the local seafood might just redeem the experience. ⛳😏
Tenerife Siam Park 🌊 An Outing not to be Missed
If you are planning to spend some time in the south of the island, then the Tenerife Siam Park sensation is something not to be missed. Siam park is a large, clean, beautifully landscaped and well organized water park, officially the No 1 water park in the world.
If you come to Tenerife, this is absolutely a ‘must do’ attraction.
Even if you are not bothered about the rides, this is a great place to relax on their huge artificial beach – with real white sand and a Gi-normous Wave Palace.
Puerto de la Cruz ⚓ Tenerife
We’d done our time in the south, which was all golf courses and sun-seeking expats. Then, just as we were starting to feel a bit too sun-kissed and jaded, we clambered onto a bus and trundled up to Puerto de la Cruz on the northern coast. Three nights there, they said. Three nights of… well, we were about to find out.
Puerto de la Cruz offers a blend of traditional Canarian Spanish culture and modern amenities.
In addition to dramatic Atlantic panoramas, historic architecture, and a mountainous backdrop, the town’s lively promenades also offer some excellent traditional and fine-dining restaurants.
Loro Parque Tenerife 🦜
We craved a proper attraction, something that would appeal to the whole family and provide more than just a pleasant stroll.
That’s where Loro Parque came in. We’d heard whispers of it, a place so popular it felt like a theme park for zoologists. It’s got a sister park in the south, Siam Parque, and we were informed that these two were the undisputed reigning champions of Tenerife’s tourist scene. And just like that, our next main event was on the cards…
Gran Canaria Ferry from North Tenerife ⛴️
The Canaries comprises a sun-drenched archipelago of seven distinct islands located off the northwest coast of Africa. From the volcanic peaks of Tenerife and Lanzarote to the golden dunes of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, each island offers a distinct experience. One of the easiest and more scenic ways of travelling between the islands is by ferry.
Prepare to set sail and immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of the Canary Islands—no sea legs required! 🌊🚢
Maspalomas Gay Paradise 🌈 Gran Canaria
Maspalomas, a vibrant enclave on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, has long been celebrated as a welcoming destination for the LGBTQ+ community. With its stunning golden beaches, bustling nightlife, and inclusive atmosphere, Maspalomas offers a perfect blend of relaxation and exhilaration.
This popular gay paradise caters to all preferences, from sun-seekers and party-goers to those seeking a more tranquil retreat.
Madrid 💃 Our Grand Spanish Finale
After nine days of soaking up rays and generally pretending to be sophisticated Europeans in the Canary Islands, our Spanish odyssey was drawing to a close.
Madrid, the grand dame of Spain, was to be our final hurrah. It felt rather fitting, actually, having kicked off our adventure with fleeting (but fabulous) visits to Girona and Barcelona. A nice symmetrical journey, from coast to capital.
