As avid travelers, we were looking for a destination that would offer us peace, relaxation, activities and natural beauty. Rebak Island delivers on all fronts.
In this article, we will take you on a journey to discover the hidden beauty of Rebak Island and the unique experiences that it has to offer.
Getting To Rebak Island
To reach Rebak Island, you first need to travel to Langkawi. This is just a short 1-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur. From Langkawi airport, you have a 10-minute drive down the coast to Cenang Terminal.
Complimentary boat transfers from Cenang Terminal to Rebak and back are provided to all in house guests at the Rebak Island Resort. Travel to and from Rebak island is around 10 minutes each way.
For resort guests, pre-booking is not required for these shared scheduled boat transfers. However, you need to be at each of the departure points 10 minutes prior to boarding the boat.
Alternatively, you can also take a private boat charter, which is a great way to experience the island’s beauty at your own pace.
Accommodation at Rebak Island Resort
One of the best things about the luxurious Rebak Island Resort is that it offers a range of accommodation options that cater to every budget and preference. The resort is a beautiful and tranquil oasis nestled amidst lush greenery and overlooking the stunning Andaman Sea.
The resort boasts an array of amenities, including a swimming pool, spa, and dining options. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed, with all the modern amenities that one would need for a pleasurable stay.
Beaches, Nature & Activities
Rebak is a paradise for nature lovers and beachgoers alike. The island is home to several pristine beaches, each offering a unique experience.
The most popular beach on the island belongs to the Rebak Island Resort. This is a long stretch of powdery white sand, lined with palm trees. We spent hours lounging on the beach, soaking up the sun, and taking a dip in the refreshing waters.
If you are a nature lover, you can explore the island’s rich biodiversity by taking a nature walk through the lush rainforest that covers most of the island. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, birds, and butterflies, and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
For those looking for a more secluded beach experience, there is the Red Rock Beach – a secluded cove that can be reached by following one of the nature trails.
Rebak Island offers a range of activities that cater to all types of travelers. If you are an adventure enthusiast, you can go kayaking, paddle boarding, take a boat tour around the island, or an early-morning hike along the Nature Trails.
For those who prefer a more laid-back experience, you can spend your days lounging by the pool, indulging in a relaxing spa treatment, or simply taking a leisurely stroll along the beach.
Red Rock Beach
As we explored the beauty of Rebak, one particular spot stood out as a unique destination: Red Rock Beach. This stunning beach is a hidden gem, tucked away on the north-west coast of the island.
Located just a 40-minute hike away from the Rebak Island Resort, Red Rock Beach offers an even more peaceful and secluded escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The beach is surrounded by lush greenery and towering cliffs. The sea here is surprisingly rough for Langkawi, with crashing waves that you can clearly hear as you approach through the jungle.
One of the unique features of Red Rock Beach is the presence of large red rocks that dot the shoreline. These rocks are believed to be over 500 million years old and were formed during the ancient geological period when Malaysia was still a part of the supercontinent Gondwana.
The red rocks add a distinct character to the beach and make it a favorite spot for photographers.
You should plan your trip to Red Rock Beach early in the morning, straight after breakfast. The trick is to get there during low tide so you can explore a really cool cave on the north side of the beach. After 10:30 am or so, the cave becomes inaccessible due to the rising tide.
We made it with just minutes to spare before the waves came rushing in. We noticed Swift nests near the roof of the cave, so it doesn’t become completely submerged.
Don’t hang around too long, though, since the tide rises surprisingly quickly.
Red Rock Beach is an excellent spot for sunbathing and relaxation. The beach is usually deserted, providing a peaceful retreat to unwind and soak up the sun.
Getting to and from Red Rock beach is a mini adventure in itself, and requires a modicum of fitness, with some steep climbs and descents, sometimes with ropes for assistance. Definitely not flip-flop friendly.
I lost both soles from my old trainers, but managed to tie them back on with Lena’s pant straps
Dining
Rebak has a range of dining options that cater to all tastes and budgets. The Rebak Island Resort features the Senara restaurant, an all-day dining venue that serves a variety of international cuisines, and a beachfront bar that offers refreshing drinks and snacks (with a daily Happy Hour!).
We paid RM 280 for a tasty meal for 2 with a bottle of wine, and some live musical entertainment.
Exploring Nearby Attractions
While Rebak island is a destination in itself, there are several nearby attractions that are worth exploring. Langkawi, for example, is a popular tourist destination that offers a range of activities, such as cable car rides, jungle treks, and island hopping tours.
The Langkawi Sky Bridge is a must-visit attraction, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The island is also home to several duty-free shopping centers, making it a great destination for retail therapy.
